Upholstery Cleaning

Safely cleans all fabric types, removing dirt, stains, and allergens while preserving the beauty of your furniture.

Why the fabric decides how a sofa gets cleaned

Two sofas that look alike across the room can be built from completely different cloth, and the cloth decides everything that follows. A tightly woven synthetic takes water and cleaning solution very differently from a natural fiber, and a delicate weave can be harmed by a method that a sturdy one shrugs off. That is why the first step at M&J is never the machine. It is looking at what your furniture is actually made of.

We check the fabric type, then the condition: where the soil has settled, which arms and seat cushions carry the most wear, and which marks are surface stains and which have been sitting for years. That assessment tells us how gentle the job needs to be before a single drop of solution touches the furniture.

Families across Fort Collins and Northern Colorado hand us everything from everyday living room sofas to chairs that have been in the family for decades. The same rule covers all of them: identify the fabric first, then choose the method that suits it.

Pre-treating stains, then extracting without soaking the cushion

Stains and soiled areas are pre-treated before any cleaning starts. The spots that collect the most grime, such as armrests, headrests and the front edge of a seat cushion, get attention first, so the main cleaning pass is not asked to do the job of a spot treatment.

Then comes hot water extraction. Our method is gentle extraction that cleans without over-wetting, because furniture holds moisture in places a carpet never does. Padding and frames stay as dry as we can keep them, and the dirt leaves with the water instead of sinking deeper into the cushion.

Furniture has seams, piping, tufting and the narrow gaps where the seat meets the arm. Crumbs, pet hair and body oils collect in exactly those places, so detailed cleaning of the crevices is part of every job rather than an extra. The result is furniture that looks brighter, smells fresher, and has fewer of the allergens that settle into fabric over time.

Fabric protector and how to care for furniture while it dries

After the cleaning, an optional fabric protector can be applied. It is there to keep furniture cleaner longer, so the next spill or muddy paw print has a harder time setting into the cloth. It is optional, and we will tell you whether we think it suits your particular fabric.

Properly extracted upholstery is left only lightly damp, and it should be treated gently until it has dried. Keep the cushions free of heavy use, give the room some airflow, and ask us before you put anything on the furniture that could leave a mark.

Whether you are refreshing one chair or the whole living room, call us at (970) 207-0510 and tell us what the furniture is made of if you know. Estimates are free and there is no obligation, and bundling services can bring a discount when upholstery goes on the same visit as carpet or rug cleaning.
